Seasons shifting: Spring, Summer, and Autumn Gold. Sprachreisen nach cornwall.

The first of many daffodils in St Agnes makes its appearance in late January. It is the first colour after the subdued winter, when hedgerows are green and brown, but for the occasional Red Campion that peeks out from the murk.

The shifting seasons, and the changing colour of the countryside is very much our interest here at Skool. Each season holds and traps a different shade, and each is as treasured as the next.

February Sea in STtAgnes, Cornwall

We welcome our clients throughout the year. This January, for instance, Monica from the Tyrol in Italy began her stay. Together we watched nature’s colour palette transform; in April The South West Coast Path began to light up with flowers, at first like a fuse and then ablaze with spring flowers: Sea Pinks (or Thrifts), Spring Squeal and Gorse (or Furze). Of course, there is one flowering plant that surprises and stands because of its astonishing colour: the blooming heather – it’s with us from May to early Autumn.

This year, we have walked and talked with clients who’ve come from all over Europe and beyond; we’ve all been mesmerised by the sublime natural world. Here, we explore hidden beaches, The South West Coast Path, country houses, and we ‘drink’ in the wild Cornish air. And yes, the weather has been changeable, but the Cornish weather can suddenly transform into warm sunshine without notice, immediately, at once – at the drop of a hat.

In January, I long to see the bright heather, but it is the transforming month of September and October that perhaps holds the most allure. Cornwall is a little quieter in the Autumn. After all, there are fewer visitors in the county. The roads are easier to drive on, the pubs are a little less busy,  and the beach in our little cove seems calmer. This breathing space creates an atmosphere of calm. This mood is reflected in the changing light of the sky above, and in the late flowering hydrangeas, roses, and the shifting green colours of sycamore and oak to autumnal gold. The sky and clouds put on such a show here, you can be forgiven for thinking that the sunrise and sunsets are entirely unreal.

Autumn is a dynamic month, full of both renewal and reflection. It is a wonderful time to see Cornwall, whether that is to walk the South West Coast Path, explore woodlands or even take time to reflect and renew. If you’re thinking of an English language course, why not try Skool in Autumn and catch the golden light before the seasons shift?

Nothing Gold Can Stay – Robert Frost

Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.
